JOB DESCRIPTION
Dcode is looking for an experienced and highly motivated Technology Scouting Senior Associate to join our growing team and support Dcode’s Accelerator. Reporting to the Director of Technology Scouting, you will work closely with the tech sector, venture capital firms, government agencies, and industry partners to support the identification and recruitment of tech companies for our accelerator programs. This role also will be responsible for supporting Dcode’s tech scouting efforts by identifying relevant tech startups in response to government and industry partner needs. 

The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years of experience performing tech scouting, horizon scanning, market mapping / analysis of startups across a wide range of tech areas. Previous experience in a tech startup, accelerator, management consulting, venture capital, or investment banking are a plus.

We’re looking for candidates with a deep intellectual curiosity, an ability to get to the bottom of complex topics, a sincere passion for the latest innovation, the startup community, and bringing emerging tech to the government. You’ll also be a well-organized self-starter with superior analytical skills.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Tech Scouting for Dcode’s Accelerator
  • Identify and research new markets and technologies for relevance to government problem sets
  • Execute Dcode strategy to identify venture-backed technology companies that could participate in our Accelerator program
  • Work closely with Dcode’s business development team to flag companies as potential leads once relevant companies are identified 
Tech Scouting for Government / Partner Requests
  • Support government and industry partner requests to identify emerging technology companies operating in a domain of interest
  • Build reports and briefing documents that identify relevant technology companies
  • Conduct business and technical due diligence to assess companies and their products for government use cases
  • Stay current on tech industry trends that could impact the government
  • Network with peers in government, venture capital firms, accelerators and corporations to understand macro trends in the tech industry
  • Collect and track relevant data on all technologies scouted

Key Skills

You’ll learn something new every day in this role, and no two days will look exactly the same. We’ll teach you the ropes but ideal candidates will have:
  • 2+ years of relevant work experience identifying early stage tech companies, including investment due diligence, market mapping and analysis, strategic foresight activities, targeting, and innovation scouting

  • Fast-Paced Learner: ability to absorb large amounts of information quickly and make informed decisions based on current business needs

  • Team Player: you are excited to collaborate with a diverse group of Dcoders to efficiently complete cross-functional initiatives
Preferred qualifications for this role include:
  • Experience identifying emerging tech trends and the startups driving those changes
  • Experience supporting deal sourcing, and investment due diligence in a VC
  • Experience supporting a government agency’s innovation agenda by identifying relevant startups across a broad range of tech areas
  • Demonstrated ability to get up-to-speed quickly on nuanced emerging technology topics in a fast-paced environment
