Management Development Program, Analyst

Program Opportunity and Objectives:
Horizon’s Management Development Program (Analyst Track) is a 3-year rotational program providing aspiring professionals the opportunity to accelerate the development of their business and technical skills. Learn the “Horizon way” of operating and the principles and values to help you successfully contribute to Horizon. Ensure you are on the right track as you start your professional career. In this program you will:
- Establish comprehensive working knowledge of different business areas through 12-month rotations
- Learn how to prioritize and manage multiple projects, objectives, and deadlines
- Enhance your knowledge and perspective of technical/business information through formal learning and on-the-job experience
- Broaden your perspective and develop an enterprise mindset by working cross-functionally in a global, matrix environment
Rotation Summaries:
Required rotations (each 12 months) include Sales (rotation 1); Commercial, Business Development or Finance (rotation 2); and Marketing (rotation 3):
Sales (Rotation 1)
Program participants will be assigned sales territories within the U.S. for this rotation. All participants will be required to operate full-time from their assigned sales territories for the duration of the sales rotation. The sales territory assignments will be finalized towards the end of Q1, 2022. Post sales rotation, program participants will be required to relocate to Deerfield, IL office for the remainder of the program.
Responsibilities include calling on and managing the relationships with practicing physicians and targeted accounts in an assigned territory to drive prescribing behavior and compliantly meet sales targets. Must effectively provide healthcare professionals (HCP’s) with the most current information pertaining to Horizon products and their approved indications while ensuring they compliantly achieve the business goals of the territory.
Commercial, Business Development or Finance (Rotation 2)
Assignment to a rotation in one of the following areas will be based on business needs and program participants’ interest. Additional business areas may be added based on business needs:
Commercial Organization: Commercial Analytics; Market Research; Business Operations
Business Development: Portfolio & Strategy Development
Finance: Financial Planning & Analysis
Commercial Analytics
Develop and deliver business insights across the organization with a strong focus on the commercial teams through integration of data sources, primary research, and custom analysis.
Market Research
Learn and support the development, execution, and analysis of market research projects for pharmaceutical products to include questionnaire development, fieldwork/data collection management, and report writing. The rotation will help develop the ability to guide marketers to understand why they are doing what they are doing as well as understand how their customers or their prospects perceive them and their competitors, and why they have those perceptions.
Business Operations
Learn business operations and collaborate with cross-functional partners. This highly analytical role will require completing analyses and identifying potential business and efficiency opportunities.
Portfolio & Strategy Development
Understand and work on the decision-making processes related to Horizon’s drug development pipeline and support enterprise strategy projects. Conduct key analysis used to inform portfolio management decisions and work closely with cross-functional teams (e.g., R&D, technical operations, project management, etc.) to address strategic questions across the portfolio. Will be expected to frame, structure, and develop executive-level communication materials.
Financial Planning & Analysis
Provide support for key financial planning cycles and projects not limited to long-range plan, annual plan, forecasting and monthly review cycles specific to net sales. This role will support the net sales analysis for the aligned business unit’s portfolio of products and standard planning processes for Horizon to identify and leverage incremental operating efficiencies.
Marketing (Rotation 3)
This rotation builds a comprehensive understanding of the business, product knowledge, patient journey and awareness of market dynamics and will provide an opportunity to work closely in collaboration with a cross-functional internal team (including sales, patient services, analytics, advocacy, IT, commercial operations, market research and medical affairs) as well as some key external stakeholders. Work on tactical pull through and supporting the brand strategies for consistently driving strong brand execution.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
- Completion of a B.A. or B.S degree program, with an emphasis on marketing, healthcare, general management, or finance
- Target GPA: 3.0/4.0 or greater (no minimum required)
- 0-3 years of prior industry/work experience, including internships
- Requires valid credentials to work in the U.S.
- Must have strong planning, project management, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to seize feedback and provide clear direction
- Flexibility to work in a fluid, fast-paced environment with multiple demands with initiative and independence
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Professional, proactive demeanor
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Sales rotation (specific requirements) – must be able to:
- Operate full-time from the assigned sales territory for the duration of the rotation, including travel of short and long distances in a car or airplane
- Lift weights up to 20 pounds, as some physical rigors are required such as arranging and carrying items from an automobile, mobility between office locations and setup of a theater style room for professional presentations
- Store pharmaceutical product samples in a safe and PDMA compliant area within home office
- Own or lease a presentable, late model vehicle that must be tobacco-product free during business hours. Must possess a valid driver’s license and valid comprehensive car insurance
