Benefits Advisor

This position is located in the Department of Labor, Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA), Boston, MA. 

- This position is inside the bargaining unit at all grade levels.  

- This position has Telework eligibility.

Responsibilities
The incumbent of this position will perform the following duties:

- Provides technical information, guidance and assistance in response to written, telephonic, and walk-in inquiries from plan administrators, participants, and beneficiaries, members of congress, and the general public on the rights and benefits of individuals under ERISA, COBRA, ACA, HIPAA, Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act, Newborns’ and Mothers’ Health Protection Act, Womens’ Health and Cancer Rights Act, Genetic Information Non-Discrimination Act, Michelle’s law and other related statutes.

- Advises participants, beneficiaries, and plan administrators in resolving differences about benefits eligibility by providing explanations of ERISA and other benefits provisions, and associated plan provisions and analyzing the facts.

- Works with plan sponsors and employee benefit plans on behalf of plan participants to resolve disputes regarding plan-wide participant contribution and abandoned plan complaints through informal dispute resolution. Identifies potential criminal or more complex civil disputes that require formal investigation.

- Maintains liaison with industry and employee groups and other concerned organizations for the purpose of explaining ERISA and other obligation and benefits. Assists senior staff with providing outreach and education programs to participants, beneficiaries, plan officials, service providers, private organizations and the general public.

- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Travel Required
Occasional travel - 20% of travel as needed.
