About the Counseling & Mental Health Center
The Counseling & Mental Health Center (CMHC) offers the University of Texas at Austin’s diverse student population a variety of counseling options for their mental health and well-being to help them succeed during their academic career at the university. The Administrative Office within CMHC manages the behind-the-scenes operations for the center and supports directors, administrators and clinicians by ensuring they are equipped with the tools to accomplish the center’s mission of serving UT’s diverse student population and contributing to their academic success.
Purpose
By working closely with the CMHC Administrative Office, the successful candidate will contribute to high-quality service and support to staff, students and the campus community.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
As a Work-Study Student Assistant, 10-15 hours a week, you will provide administrative support to CMHC and Administrative Office staff by …
- Entering data, copying, scanning, faxing, filing and laminating.
- Researching assigned projects by utilizing and learning emerging technologies.
- Creating PowerPoint presentations, databases and spreadsheets when requested.
- Reviewing, requesting and distributing office supplies.
- Maintaining breakroom, event and janitorial supplies.
- Maintaining CMHC-clinicians’ lending library and materials.
- Assisting with set up/breakdown of meetings and events.
- Retrieving, sorting and distributing mail.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Student Assistants will learn how their individual tasks contribute to the agency’s function.
- Experience how university policies are implemented in daily workplace procedures and how academic calendars affect office operations and deadlines.
- Familiarize with the NACE Career Readiness Competencies and develop specific competencies, as listed below.

Qualifications
- Current UT student with 3.0 GPA or higher.
- Sophomore or Junior classification.
- Previous administrative support experience.
- Microsoft Office, Excel & PowerPoint experience.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal & organization skills.
- Ability to learn quickly and work independently.
- Desire and ability to create a positive and upbeat atmosphere.
- Aptitude towards a strong work ethic.
- Interest in learning and developing career skills.
- Ability to show up on time for scheduled shifts.
- Available to work 10-15 hours per week, for shifts averaging 2-4 hours in length during the hours of 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday.
- Hybrid in-person and remote, following UT guidelines.
