Alumni-in-Residence: Sign Up for Virtual Office Hours with Biomedical Scientist Dr. Sue Swalley ’93

The Loeb Center's Alumni-in-Residence program is excited to offer 20-minute, 1-on-1, virtual office hour appointments with Dr. Sue Swalley ’93, a Vice President at Dewpoint Therapeutics.

These virtual office hour appointments present an especially great opportunity to talk with an industry professional that has taken the journey from Amherst, through graduate school and post-docs, into industry research, and to a leadership role within the biomedical industry. These conversations would be of particular interest to those considering a future as an industry scientist and those considering careers related to the biomedical field.

Dr. Susanne Swalley '93 is a Vice President at Dewpoint Therapeutics, overseeing high throughput screening, in vitro pharmacology, and target deconvolution. Trained as a chemist, her current research focuses on discovering small molecules that modulate the function of biomolecular condensates in order to treat diseases with high unmet medical need.

Prior to Dewpoint, she led a chemical biology laboratory at Biogen as Principal Scientist, developing and applying methodologies for target deconvolution of small molecule hits from phenotypic screens. Her earlier roles included positions of Senior Investigator at the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research, where she identified and validated targets using biophysical approaches, and Research Scientist at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, where she contributed to the evaluation and screening of new targets.

Sue graduated summa cum laude from Amherst College with bachelor’s degrees in chemistry and music, and she obtained a Ph.D. in chemistry from the California Institute of Technology, studying with Dr. Peter Dervan. Her postdoctoral training took place at Harvard University in the laboratories of Dr. Don Wiley and Dr. Stephen Harrison.

Alumni-in-Residence office hours appointments are available on a first-come, first-served basis to current sophomores, juniors and seniors. Submit your resume today to sign up for a time slot!
