Navy Nuclear Machinist Mate

Machinist Mates, Nuclear Power (MMN) perform duties in nuclear propulsion plants operating reactor control, propulsion and power generation systems. The character of nuclear field jobs is mentally stimulating and offers career growth. The nuclear field provides opportunities to work closely with specialist in the nuclear, technology and engineering fields.
 
Training: 
 
   Nuclear Electricians Mate training consist of approximately 26 weeks of Nuclear Field A School and 26 weeks of Nuclear Power School. These schools are located in Goose Creek, SC. Following successful completion of these two schools, 26 weeks of hands on training will occur at one of the Naval Prototypes located in Goose Creek, SC or Ballston Spa, NY.
 
 Responsibilities:

 -Operate and maintain steam turbines, reduction gears, pumps and oil purifiers.
-Maintain auxiliary machinery outside of main machinery spaces, such as electrohydraulic steering engines and elevators, refrigeration plants, air conditioning systems and desalinization plants.
-Operate and maintain compressed gas producing plants. Nuclear-trained MMs perform duties in nuclear propulsion plants operating reactor control, propulsion and power generation systems.

United States Navy Nuclear Field requirements: 

-Age: 17 to 27
-Must be a United States Citizen ( Cannot hold dual Citizenship)
 -Pass the Entrance and Navy Advanced Placement Test
 -Must be able to obtain a Top Secret Clearance 
 -Must pass a Medical Screening (Must have full color vision)
