Corrections Education Director

The Director of Education/District Superintendent serves as the chief technical and administrative officer responsible for setting policy, directing performance management (students, processes and systems, employees), logistic and financial operations of the Adult and Juvenile Education Programs at the Minnesota Correctional Facilities (MCF's), and the Education Unit at Central Office. This includes ensuring the provision of a high quality, inclusive and
transformative education program to approximately 8,000 incarcerated individuals on an annual basis. This position also officially represents the agency related to education issues at federal, state, local and international levels. In addition, this position is responsible for leading training, data collection, management and reporting, and communications activity for the unit. The development, implementation, and monitoring of adequate enforcement of education policies and regulatory compliance is also a primary responsibility.

The following qualifications are required of all applicants seeking consideration for this position:
Master’s degree or higher in Education, Educational Administration and Leadership, or a related field

Five years of experience administering and/or coordinating education programs in a school district, a state agency, or

institution of higher education, which includes the following:

• At least two years of experience supervising or managing education program staff
• Successful coordination of educational operations in urban, minority, or indigenous settings and/or
among first generation students
• Experience directing the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of diverse educational

Extensive knowledge of state and federal laws, policies, and regulations related to the administration of education
programs, as well as the requirements for licensing and credentialing of education programs
Extensive knowledge of principles, best practices, and trends in juvenile, adult basic, and higher education

Knowledge of fiscal management principles and procedures sufficient to develop and administer budgets

Excellent written and oral communication skills sufficient to communicate across diverse functional areas, prepare written reports, and create strategic and operational plans

Human relations skills sufficient to establish and maintain effective working relationships with agency staff and management, state and federal agency staff, public schools, institutions of higher education, and professional organizations related to adult education

Ability to develop, market and implement a master academic plan and set agency strategic goals for the delivery of diverse education programs
