SITE: Franklin Grand Isle Bookmobile promotes a lifelong love of learning & builds community connections. We serve folks of all ages in Franklin & Grand Isle Counties, and we strive to make those living in a vast rural community feel closer by connecting them to each other through stories, conversation, books, literacy activities, & fun. We go where children of all ages gather—homes, classrooms, & afterschool settings. Using a variety of formats & media, we strive for individuals to be thrilled with their choice to visit with us. The VISTA utilizes collaboration in early education, out-of-school time, & community organizations to promote the mission. There are significant differences among children in their language and literacy skills at school entry; these stem from many factors, including socioeconomic status, race, & gender. Research suggests that libraries increase literacy development for children & families. The VISTA promotes literacy in our region by creating sustainable revenue sources for the Bookmobile.
