Web Marketing Content student position
Job Summary
20-hour per week paid position in Strategic Communications, the official communication and marketing office for WSU. Skills must include writing and translating client needs into impactful web content. This is a hands-on position where you will be provided guidance as you improve on your existing skills and learn new ones in a team environment. A collaborative, self-starting attitude is a must.
In this position, you will improve skills in:
- Writing, updating and editing marketing text.
- Designing and updating web content features within a Content Management System.
- Improving the SEO, usability and accessibility of web pages.
- Monitoring and acting on web analytics.
Responsibilities
- Writing, updating and editing text for client and university websites.
- Designing and updating web content features within the stock feature set of the university’s Content Management System.
- Meeting with clients in person and virtually to help determine client marketing needs.
- Working with Strategic Communications professional to improve the SEO, usability and accessibility of the Wichita State website.
- Other duties as directed.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Qualifications
Required:
- Availability for 20 hours per week between 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. (Occasional evening/weekend hours may be needed for campus events.)
- Currently enrolled as a full-time student at WSU.
- Must be proficient with English grammar.
- Excellent marketing writing skills with an interest in advocating for and promoting WSU.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Attention to detail and ability to ensure that deadlines and other project requirements are met.
- Ability to work with diverse publics and relate positively with others including faculty, staff and students at all levels.
- Self-motivated team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to listen carefully and build positive relationships.
- Professional appearance for events.
- Basic skills with Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop.
Preferred:
- Experience in writing marketing or public relations content.
- Experience working in website Content Management Systems
- Experience with professional social media.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Experience using Adobe design software.
- Basic understanding of HTML and CSS. (NOTE: This is not a programming/coding position.)
- Experience working in a professional office setting.
