Collections & Exhibitions Intern

COLLECTIONS & EXHIBITIONS INTERNSHIP

The Bass Museum of Art currently seeks a Collections & Exhibitions intern to assist in the daily management of the museum’s collections, on/offsite storage vaults, and loans on exhibition.


Under the supervision of the Registrar of Collections & Exhibitions, the intern will have a hands-on learning and training experience and participate in the daily management of the museum’s collections, on/offsite storage vaults, and loans on exhibition. The intern will learn and gain skills in proper art handling, care/maintenance of exhibits, preservation techniques, collections storage organization and management, environmental monitoring, cataloging and condition reporting, inventory, data entry and file management, accessioning of new acquisitions and deaccessioning from the permanent with documentation.
Duties and responsibilities, but are not limited to, assisting the registrar with the following tasks:
  • Accessioning of new acquisitions and deaccessioning with documentation.
  • Assist in inventorying, learning to catalog and to condition report art objects from historic works to contemporary art in the permanent collection.
  • Art handling and physically moving all types of art objects
  • Assist with incoming and outgoing loans for upcoming exhibitions
  • Database and file management of The Bass collection using EmBARK, the collections management system.
  • Assist in processing backlog registration paperwork.
  • Organize the museum’s archives and past exhibition files.
  • Assisting the Exhibitions in the installation and deinstallation of artworks, un/packing and conducting condition reports
  • Perform cleaning and maintenance of exhibit galleries and storage areas
QUALIFICATIONS
  • This internship is appropriate for students from the following majors: museum studies, art history, art, anthropology, history and library science.
  • Excellent organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task and be flexible in work assignments
DURATION: Sept 13, 2021 - December 3, 2021; dates are flexible.
REQUIRED HOURS/PAY
  • 10 hours per week, Monday to Friday. UNPAID
  • 15-20 hours per week, Monday to Friday. ACADEMIC CREDIT
