QSE Student Assistant

The International Journal of Qualitative Studies in Education seeks a student worker who will play an integral role in processing manuscript submissions to the journal and facilitating internal review board meetings. 
Primary Responsibilities
The function of the student assistant managing editor is to work with the Managing Editor and help facilitate the processing of manuscripts from submission to publication. Responsibilities include:
·      Manage, track, and distribute new research manuscripts submissions from around the globe
·      Attend monthly meetings of the QSE's internal review board and create weekly analytical reports
·      Create and present quarterly diagnostic report of the journal's operations and efficiency
·      Prepare reports as necessary
·      Learn and use ScholarOne, the journal’s online system used to manage the submission and peer review of manuscripts 
·      Other duties as assigned

Through their work in this position, the student will become acquainted with the following Profiles of Undergraduate Learning:
·      Communicator – Students will learn to become better communicators through building a relationship with supervisor and through monthly meetings with editorial board. Students will get the opportunity to practice conveying their ideas effectively through supervisory meetings.

·      Problem Solver – Students will practice critical thinking, evaluative and analytical skills through the processing of academic manuscripts and conveying potential issues to supervisor. Students will collaborate with supervisor on best practices for streamlining academic manuscript processing. Students will synthesize data on the journal through the creation of quarterly and yearly reports.

·      Innovator – Students will learn the ScholarOne academic manuscript platform, using it to process manuscripts and create data-driven reports. Students will investigate potential areas of growth for the journal, particularly in the space of social media.

·      Community Contributor – Through the critical aim of the journal, students will learn about the ways that the voices of socially marginalized and oppressed groups can be uplifted and centered, and how the mechanisms that oppress them can be dismantled.
