Principal Policy Analyst (Req 33907)

Serve as Principal Policy Analyst for the Undergraduate Council and its subcommittees and support the Graduate Council and Program Review as assigned. Facilitate the administrative and analytical aspects of Councils and Committees, and act as a resource person for the Councils, subcommittees, and appointed ad hoc committees. Facilitates all aspects of program reviews as they relate to the undergraduate and graduate programs, including managing the reviews of non-degree programs and free-standing minors. Represent the Senate as liaison with administrative offices and academic units. 

The Academic Senate has over twenty standing committees, and committee assignments may change at the discretion of the Executive Director. Acting in a general administrative capacity, serve the organization by performing other duties as required.

Required:
1. Working knowledge of undergraduate and graduate curricula and existing programs for undergraduates and graduate students.
2. Working knowledge of current issues in higher education, including curricular models and practices.
3. Working knowledge of policies and procedures related to undergraduate and graduate course approval processes.
4. Ability to adapt to annually changing Senate committee chairs and members, as well as Senate officers.
5. Skill in analyzing information, dealing with problems, practices and procedures to define issues, identify relevant concerns, recognize alternatives and implications, and formulate logical and objective recommendations for effective solutions.
6. Skill in leadership as demonstrated by exercising mature judgment in independent decision making to coordinate and determine action with little supervision.
7. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, students and administrative officers to insure the smooth administration of the work of the Committees/Councils, the Senate Program Review process, and the Academic Senate as a whole.
8. Ability to judge what information should be passed on to different units and administrative offices on campus and systemwide.
9. Skill in independently coordinating an extensive and varied workload with multiple deadlines, and modifying or adapting office procedures to optimize effort and use of time and materials.
10. Skill in interacting diplomatically with faculty, staff, students and administrative offices, assuring confidentiality of sensitive documents, communicating established policies, and recommending changes when appropriate, with an ability to maintain equanimity during exchanges of ideas, information and opinions.
11. Skill in organizing work flow, delegating responsibility, and training performance.

14. Ability to update and keep website current as it pertains to Council assignments.
15. Ability to write analytic reports using logical arguments, appropriate facts and data, and statistical information. Writing skills to prepare concise, logical grammatically correct correspondence, charts, tables and reports. Excellent English skills, both written and verbal, to convey and obtain information.
16. Ability to thrive in a high-paced environment with conflicting agendas, priorities, and deadlines.
17. Skill in defining and setting appropriate priorities, organizing assignments, and completing work.
18. Competency with internal controls and managing expenditures within the parameters of established budgets; ability to apply expenses to appropriate funding sources
19. BA or BS degree and four years of professional experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred:
20. Working knowledge of the policies and procedures of the University in general and specifically those of the Academic Senate.
21. Master's or doctoral degree preferred.
22. Working knowledge of operational requirements of a complex university governance system.
23. Working knowledge of UC and UCLA administrative policies and procedures and practices.
