Weekend Site Supervisor [Spring and Summer 2022]

POSITION: Weekend Site Supervisor & Custodian
STATUS: Part-Time / $12.50 an hour
REPORTS TO: Roof Director

New Hope for Families helps families impacted by homelessness gain and maintain stable housing and provides nationally accredited early childhood programming aimed at breaking the cycle of homelessness and poverty.

About The Roof
New Hope’s shelter program, The Roof, provides emergency shelter for families experiencing homelessness. The Roof can shelter 7 families at a time across our 2 shelter houses. Families bunk in a private, locked bedroom and share common kitchen, bathroom, and laundry rooms with other residents. The Roof case management team focus on locating affordable, stable housing for families as quickly as possible. Along the way, our residents work to gain income, develop their soft skills like housekeeping and parenting tactics, and work to get access to government benefits. During the day residents attend case management meetings and work with shelter staff toward their goals. In addition, volunteers often meet residents in the office or in the shelter houses to work on skills like budgeting and nutritious cooking.

About the Job
The Weekend Site Supervisor cares for families’ needs by creating a sanitary, well-supplied home. In addition, the supervisor interacts with families to build a positive, mentoring relationship, enforces shelter rules, supervises residents, and performs light custodial work. The Weekend Site Supervisor supports occasional weekend programming like homework help and family stability programming by overseeing volunteers and work groups who interact with families. This position is part-time, and essential to maintaining safe, harmonious, and sanitary living spaces for our resident families. The Weekend Site Supervisor works Saturday and Sunday evenings, flexibly between 5PM and 1AM. New Hope is constructing a new facility to open in January, 2022. This role will not transfer to the new facility, but will conclude when we leave our old facility in January, 2022.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Responsible for supervising residents, enforcing shelter rules, and ensuring a safe shelter environment
· Notifies Roof Director in case of emergencies and keeps a log of families’ needs and behaviors
· Welcomes and supports any evening shelter volunteers
· Monitors supply inventory and provides families with essentials like bedding, hygiene, and kitchen supplies as needed
· Monitors video surveillance system
· Maintains a high degree of confidentiality
· Treats all residents with dignity and respect, with an eye toward encouraging and empowering their progress toward affordable housing
· Receives training in, and helps clients with life skills like tidying common spaces, age-appropriate childcare methods, and more as needed
· Sanitizes common spaces (floors, counter tops, kitchen table, sinks, bathrooms)

QUALIFICATIONS
· Minimum of High School diploma or GED
· Must be able to work weekends and some holidays (trades holidays with other supervision staff)
· Must be comfortable triaging a crisis like children’s injuries, arguments, or other emergent situations until other shelter staff can respond and support
· Must have reliable transportation and working telephone

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Docs preferred, but training can be provided
· Experience performing custodial duties preferred
· Skill with problem-solving and mediating conflict; willingness to receive training and guidance about mediation and conflict resolution
· Experience/ability to respond appropriately to cultural differences with children, staff and the community

EQUIPMENT
Supervisor will handle cleaning supplies like bleach, mops, and other chemicals. In addition, the supervisor will use a laptop to log notes at the end of each shift. Training will be provided for all equipment.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The Weekend Supervisor works most often in a group home setting with adults and children. The supervisor will spend the bulk of his/her time with families building relationships, meeting material needs, and cleaning the common spaces. The Weekend Supervisor also utilizes a desk and laptop in an office for professional correspondence. Finally, the Supervisor must be able to climb stairs to access supplies and enter the homes.
