GlaxoSmithKline is looking for a highly motivated and creative scientist to join the department of Screening, Profiling & Mechanistic Biology (SPMB) at GSK’s research facility in Upper Providence, Pennsylvania. The primary responsibility of the SPMB department is to deliver high quality, biologically relevant pre-clinical leads for all GSK therapeutic areas, by employing a combination of scientific tools and methodologies, including but not limited to assay development, high throughput screening, compound profiling, and mechanism of action studies.

As a Senior Scientist – Immunology, you will work on a matrix team to support immunology research, with the majority of your efforts focused on developing versatile flow cytometry assays in primary cells and cell lines for use in high-throughput screening and mechanistic studies.  This is an exciting, lab-based role that will allow the individual to contribute to programs spanning the drug discovery pipeline. The successful candidate is expected to be effective in designing and executing experiments at the highest possible scientific standard, be highly flexible and productive, and possess positive communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing and troubleshooting plate-based cellular immunology assays, primarily using flow cytometry readouts
  • Working collaboratively in a matrix team environment to support flow cytometry research efforts
  • Working with human biological samples and adhering to standard operating procedures for handling and tracking of biological samples
  • Communicating experimental findings effectively, in written and verbal formats

Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s degree in biological sciences (such as Cell Biology or Immunology)
  • Experience with in vitro immunology assays, including immunophenotyping by flow cytometry
  • Experience in cell biology, cell culture, and cell-based assay development
  • One year of lab-based experience in an academic or industry context

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Proficiency in developing highly multi-parametric flow cytometry panels
  • Expertise analyzing flow cytometry data
  • Familiarity with mass cytometry (CyTOF)
  • Previous experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry
