Nature Teacher

Job Description


Position Type:     Full-time/Temporary
Season:     start March-August
Compensation:   $333/week, job training
AmeriCorps Education Award available upon successful completion

Overview:
The Nature Teacher will assist with planning, scheduling, teaching, and general supervision of existing programs and events for K-12 students and adult community members, and design and implement new programs for different age groups. They will also assist in designing and creating publicity for educational programs and events, assist in the distribution of publicity for upcoming events, programs, and volunteer opportunities, and assist with website and social media to promote programs and events.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist with planning, scheduling, teaching, and general supervision of existing programs and events for K-12 students and adult community members
  • Design and implement new programs for different age groups
  • Complete program and event evaluations
  • Keep detailed records of program types and attendance numbers for grant purposes
  • Use general budgetary and financial policies and procedures to assess the feasibility of programs and events
  • Assist in designing and creating publicity for educational programs and events
  • Assist in the distribution of publicity for upcoming events, programs, and volunteer opportunities
  • Assist with website and social media to promote programs and events
  • Assist with recruitment, training, and evaluation of nonpaid, non-AmeriCorps volunteers who assist with environmental education programs for K-12 students and adult community members
  • Assist with scheduling and supervision of volunteers
  • Make sure appropriate records of volunteer hours are kept


Qualifications:
  • teaching experience with ages 4 - 14 a plus
  • willing to learn and implement teaching strategies for diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • at least 18 years of age
  • Experience in outdoor recreation a plus
  • Passionate about environmental causes and being a part of the community surrounding environmental service
  • Willingness to learn various conservation practices or land management techniques
  • Enjoys hard work and has a good sense of humor
  • Prepared to undergo a criminal background check
