Empowerment Coach
Cathedral Kitchen (CK) is looking to fill a new full-time case manager position.
Overview:
Cathedral Kitchen is a nonprofit organization in Camden that was founded 45 years ago, and our vision is Success, hope and abundance for people in need in Camden. We work towards this vision by helping people out of food insecurity and championing their pursuit of stability and prosperity.
We do this through several programs. For example, we operate a soup kitchen (Meal Program) where we serve about 300 meals per day to adults and families primarily from Camden New Jersey. Anyone may come to CK for a meal, and we provide services during the meal, primarily in partnership with other nonprofit organizations, that are intended to help our guests improve their lives.
We are looking for an Empowerment Coach to assist our Meal Program guests achieve personal goals, such as obtaining identification and housing or addressing a substance use disorder, by helping them access services on and off site. In 2021 and beyond we will be making improvements to the Meal Program, as well as expanding services for meal guests. The Empowerment Coach play a key role, along with other staff, in planning and implementing these changes.
Strong candidates will have a passion for serving some of the most vulnerable people in our community, as well as a commitment to doing so in a welcoming and trauma-informed way.
Responsibilities:
- Interacts with meal guests to develop positive, trusting relationships
- Provides case management services to Cathedral Kitchen dinner guests, including help with housing, medical, substance use and other social services issues. Works to help guests resolve issues in a timely manner.
- Maintains case notes and case files for guests served
- Refers guests to services on and off site and helps ensure guests access these services
- Works collaboratively with nonprofit organization staff on and off site to coordinate and track services and outcomes for meal guests
- With volunteer help, organizes and distributes donated goods, such as winter coats, to meal guests.
- Works with Board of Social Services to provide temporary placements within Cathedral Kitchen for Community Workforce Empowerment Program (CWEP) participants
- Monitors CWEP attendance; files monthly reports online and maintains hard copy file for office
- Meets with Meal Program Team on a regular basis to review and resolve Meal Program and guest issues
Job Qualifications:
- Must be fluent in spoken and written English. Conversational Spanish is a plus
- Passion for the Kitchen’s mission
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in social work or related field, and at least one year of experience providing case management services to low-income individuals OR Associates Degree in social work or related field and at least three years providing case management services to low-income individuals.
- Knowledge of Camden institutions/organizations that serve people who are low-income is preferred
- Ability to demonstrate empathy with our client population
- Strong interpersonal and verbal communications skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Good organizational skills
- Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions
- Flexibility and ability to adjusting to changing circumstances
Competitive nonprofit salary ($37,000 – 41,000) and benefits package offered
