Campus Communications Officer
Under limited supervision, this position is responsible to coordinate incoming communications and other activities to support Security personnel and other members of the University in the interest of safety.
This position receives emergency and non-emergency calls for service requiring the incumbent to have the ability to remain calm in an atmosphere of changing priorities and periods of high stress. This position dispatches, monitors, and responds to security personnel and other university personnel (Facilities, Finance and Administration, Residential Life, Athletics, and other department), operates computer aided dispatch and records management system, operates the State Allied Radio Matrix for Emergency Response (ARMER) radio system, operates emergency paging software, trains new personnel, operates internal security systems and alarms (telephone, communications and life safety alarms, devices and systems), monitors and operates university surveillance systems, electronic security, and provides direction to all Communications Unit student employees, provides primary technical lead-worker direction to Student Paraprofessional Communications Officers; conducts on-the-job training to student and paraprofessional employees; assists with the classroom training of same.
This position has been designated as weather and emergency essential. In the event of a University closure or emergency event, incumbent is required to report to work and respond as requested.
