Communications Assistant, USAID, Bureau for Conflict Prevention and Stabilization

About the Position

The U.S. Agency for International Development's Bureau for Conflict Prevention and Stabilization (CPS) is seeking a Communications Assistant to support and work with the CPS Bureau Communications Team in the Program Office (PO). The full-time position is located in USAID’s Washington, D.C., headquarters. The PO is responsible for providing communications support to the Bureau and coordinating across offices on behalf of the Bureau. CPS seeks to create stable and peaceful societies. CPS partners with USAID Missions and U.S. Embassies to contribute to peace and stability through programs, funding, and technical services focusing on social, communal, and political aspects of crises and political transition. CPS is USAID’s dedicated team for technical and analytical expertise on peacebuilding, conflict, and violence prevention. CPS responds to complex crises and opportunities and promotes a path to recipient self-reliance and resilience.

Responsibilities

The Communications Assistant will execute a wide variety of communications tasks, including but not limited to the following:
 
  • Manage, contribute and edit CPS fact sheets, success stories, infographics, reports, talking points, briefing documents, presentations, and other online and print products; 
  • Help manage content for the CPS internal and external websites and Google drive for accurate and updated information products, graphics, and multimedia files;
  • Contribute to the CPS social media portfolio, including drafting of social media posts and an editorial calendar;
  • Support Bureau and CPS/PO communications clearance and information requests from CPS offices and internal USAID communications;
  • Support CPS Communications staff on strategic communications efforts and campaigns, including identifying and coordinating internal and external events and speaking engagements with stakeholders and partners;
  • Liaise and coordinate with the interagency on communications issues as needed;
  • Serve as a point of contact and resource for CPS staff on communications guidance, information requests, and taskers; and,
  • Other duties as needed.
  

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
The ideal candidate will be results oriented, with demonstrated ability to engage in collaborative problem-solving. They will have excellent writing, listening, communication and interpersonal skills. Strong presentation skills are also required. They will have the ability to work collaboratively across offices and departments, and with leadership to advance a shared mission. 
Minimum Qualifications  
  • Must be eligible to receive and maintain a SECRET clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field.
  • Experience with office technology and software with high proficiency (including Microsoft Office, Google Workplace preferred).
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and track inputs and maintain high-quality work from multiple sources on deadline.  
  • Interest in strategic communications development and execution. 
  • Problem-solving, decision-making, and good judgment skills required.
Preferred Qualifications 
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, video editing software, newsletter writing and website management a plus.
  • Graphic design and multimedia storytelling experience is a plus.
