Responsibilities
Laboratories in the Basic Sciences Division using the Drosophila model organism are recruiting a part time Lab Aide I for the fly media kitchen. The aide will coordinate with a full time employee to work a regular three day a week schedule with some flexibility to shift days if necessary. Responsibilities include:
- Preparation for cooks, including but not limited to: preparing ingredients, stocking and ordering supplies, autoclaving foam plugs and other reagents
- Help aliquot fly media and plug food once it has set
- Cleaning bottles and preparing them for glassware
- Serving as back-up cook when full time person is away (weighing out ingredients, cooking food, ordering supplies)
- General cleanliness and maintenance of fly kitchen and fly wash facilities
This is an hourly position, 5 hour shift (~5-10pm) every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
Qualifications
- Graduation from High School or equivalent with interest in the sciences
- Some lab experience and/or college level chemistry courses preferred
- Must be able to lift trays weighing up to 30 pounds
- Must be reliable and able to produce consistent results
