The ideal candidate for this position will demonstrate their ability to design, develop, test, implement and maintain new and existing databases, while working with other developers to improve the overall applications and establish best practices.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. SQL Database Administration:
- Ensure availability and set proper options
- Provide awareness of database meta data.
- Perform updates to the database.
- Monitor system events and error logs and execute correction activities.
- Tune database for optimal efficiency and performance.
- Develop standardized procedures for common SQL tasks.
- Collaborate with IT team on disaster recovery.
2. SQL Development and Reporting:
- Translate database structures and relationships into business language meaningful for the team member’s business needs.
- Provide guidance and support to Web/App developers.
- Proactively assist users in keeping their data accurate, succinct and meaningful to the company’s business initiatives .
- Design, develop and test reports using SSRS, Tableau, Excel or other programs as required.
- Work with 3rd party vendors and internal staff on the import/export of data.
- Develop reports and tools for advanced business analysis.
- Analyze and determine information needs and elements, data relationships and attributes, data flow and storage requirements, and data output and reporting capabilities.
- Create complex scripts, stored procedures and triggers to support Web/App developers.
- Design and document logical data models, definitions, structures, standards (data views and data streams).
- Create ad-hoc queries and reports as requested and provide on-going support to fine tune and evaluate queries to improve performance and
- Create and maintain documentation on all reports and databases.
Education/Experience/Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field preferred.
- Five years practical experience in database administration, including sustaining maintenance and disaster recovery and security; portion of experience must include Microsoft SQL Server (2008r2).
- Three years hands on experience with report development tools with strong working knowledge of SQL reporting services.
- SQL Server Management Studio experience.
- Moderately complex SQL required.
- MySQL, C # and VBA background desired.
- Working knowledge of enterprise networking in a Microsoft environment, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS and DHCP, and User Security.
- Good knowledge of computer security systems and firewalls.
- Demonstrated success in working independently and in team collaboration.
- Demonstrated ability to manage small teams and lead projects.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with staff with varying levels of technical expertise.
