Student Research Assistant
WRI is seeking engaged and collaborative individuals (at undergraduate or graduate levels) to join the Institute as part-time student employees. Student employees work various hours (anywhere from 5 – 30 hours per week) depending on their schedules and whether work occurs during the academic year(s) and/or over the summer(s). Student employee positions are currently telecommuting, and will/may resume in-person working at the Walter Rand Institute (411 Cooper Street, Camden, New Jersey 08102) according to Rutgers University regulations (which will be determined and is tentatively anticipated for the Fall 2021 semester). Student employees are paid hourly rates starting at $14.00.
Students at WRI will be assigned to work across projects with WRI staff, and students at WRI will likely work on a variety of projects. Broadly, WRI work uses social science research methods in projects and program evaluations with internal Rutgers University partners and external community partners (such as nonprofit organizations and local and state agencies) across South Jersey.
Projects may involve partners in a range of areas such as child welfare, criminal justice, education, and population health and other related areas.
Types of work students may do, but are not limited to doing, at WRI:
- Attend meetings/engage with external partners (i.e. nonprofits, local governments) across South Jersey
- Coordinate administrative tasks
- Support data collection
- Support data entry into various systems, engage in data organization and management
- Engage in data analysis
- Assist in the development of research/evaluation instruments and tools
- Attend relevant project meetings and/or conferences
- Assist with the preparation of reports and/or presentations
- Conduct background research and literature reviews
- Support project organization
- Collaborate with colleagues internally and externally
- Work on public facing papers or reports
