Job Summary
The Communications Assistant reports to the Marketing Coordinator. The primary responsibilities include the writing of the Rec’ing Ram newsletter, management of the Campus Recreation blog, and management of internal and external departmental communications. Secondary responsibilities include distribution of press releases, the organization and file management of marketing drives, communication with professional staff, and collaboration with other marketing student staff members.

Qualifications / Certifications
·     Proven excellent written communication skills including samples of previous work (articles, reports, and/or blog posts)
·     Strong organizational skills including the management of distribution calendars
·     Creative writing abilities, including the implementation of humor into the writing style
·     Ability to commit 8 – 10 hours each week to working on projects at the Student Rec Center between the hours of 8:00 am – 6:00 pm, Monday – Friday

Job Responsibilities
·     Manage the Rec’ing Ram blog, including researching and writing posts on a monthly basis
·     Write, design, format, and execute the monthly Campus Recreation e-newsletter, The Rec’ing Ram, utilizing the Mail Chimp newsletter platform
·     Write and distribute press releases and articles to the CSU campus community with a focus on the Collegian, CSULife, and SOURCE
·     Manage internal communication avenues for student staff, including oversight of the student breakroom communication areas, creation of a bi-yearly staff newsletter, and additional staff outreach methods
·     Copywriting for other Campus Recreation platforms, including the website and app
·     Uphold Campus Recreation’s mission, vision, and values, including inclusivity, in all projects and writing
·     Attend all staff meetings as scheduled
·     Build a strong understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion throughout the duration of employment and apply these pillars to all aspects of the job description
·     Assist in the planning of departmental Campus Recreation events
·     Work collaboratively with other Marketing employees and independently on assigned projects.
·     Maintain organized file folder structure for all social media projects and strategies
·     Attend all staff meetings as scheduled
·     Consistently uphold all Campus Recreation department policies and procedures for patron and employee management related to the position; critical thinking, problem-solving within limits of department policy and procedures, judgment to identify and apply existing guidelines, training, enforcement, and communication for employees
·     Provide a safe and effective environment for patrons
·     Uphold service ethic and professional appearance standards
·     Other duties as assigned

Hourly Pay Rate: 12.65
