International Resesarch Analyst

Research Analyst, International Relations Internship
The Medtronic International Relations Team is looking for a Research Analyst to contribute to various projects and publications to support Medtronic’s Mission and business objectives, globally—but with a focus in Emerging Markets.
 
One third of the Analyst’s time will be dedicated to serving as the Executive Director of the USA Healthcare Alliance(www.US-aha.com), a membership-based association, supported by Medtronic, promoting healthcare exports from the United States abroad.   Another third would be involved in working on knowledge products associated with the Government Affairs function at Medtronic. The final third involves working with projects and policies related to multilateral banks and international organizations.   
 
The Research Analyst will work on a paid, consulting basis and will be expected to work approximately 20-25 hours a week during the school year and full time during the Summer/breaks.
 
The individual would report directly to the Vice President of International Relations at Medtronic, based in Washington, D.C., at the Medtronic Office in Penn Quarter (9th and F Streets, N.W., or virtually, as appropriate)
 
Responsibilities include:
  • Evaluate strategic engagement with multi-lateral development banks (World Bank and Inter-American Development Bank) by identifying relevant tenders and projects for Medtronic
  • Share business opportunities and support in-country colleagues on potential bids
  • Coordinate knowledge management initiatives through Government Affairs Knowledge Hub & Yammer (employee communication site), including educational briefings on international organizations engagement, utilizing the US Government while abroad, and surveys to assess best practices and key subject matters/policy concerns. 
  • Lead United Nations (UN) global tenders within Medtronic through a cross regional, function, and business team

The ideal candidate would have:
  • Capability to work in one or more foreign languages both conversationally and in writing;
  • An interest in the intersection of global politics, medical technology, global health, and international business;
  • Flexibility and business professionalism for a fast-paced environment;
  • Strong international relations and public policy background;
  • Strong communications/writing/editing skills, ability to simplify and clearly and concisely convey complicated concepts.
**Preference is given to candidates willing to commit between 18 months or beyond. Equally, preference will be given to undergraduates (Sophomore Year) who are earlier in their studies.  
 
The job requires a high degree of responsibility, responsiveness, interest, creativity, and entrepreneurship. This position is a challenging one in a very rewarding field, where we prove that you can “do well, and do good” simultaneously—clearly providing relief to patients/their families who can benefit from medical technology throughout the globe. A Non-Disclosure Agreement must be signed.
