Herencia Crowdsourcing Campaign Internship
The Law Library of Congress seeks several remote interns to assist with the crowdsourcing transcription campaign, Herencia: Centuries of Spanish Legal Documents. Herencia is the Library’s first entirely non-English crowdsourcing campaign, consisting of legal documents in the languages of Spanish, Catalan, and Latin from 15th – 19th Century Spain. Interns will work remotely and independently on a series of tasks that will help promote this rare and unique collection and make it more accessible to researchers. Such tasks may include: transcribing documents and reviewing the submitted transcriptions of other volunteers, assisting Law Library staff with the promotion of the next release of the campaign (Phase 3), and identifying and inviting potential volunteers, as well as other related duties as assigned.
Finally, interns will propose a blog post for the Law Library of Congress blog to discuss interesting discoveries that they have found in the collection.
All higher education students and graduates, especially students majoring in Spanish or History. Interns must have reliable Internet access, an email address they regularly check, and a web browser. Interns should commit to work on the project approximately 10 hours per week for a total of 10 weeks. In addition to other campaign-related tasks assigned, interns should transcribe or review approximately 35 documents each week. Interns should also propose at least one blog post about a discovery they have made in the collection during the course of their internship.
