Teacher Assistant for Autism
Special Connections Academy is a non-profit special education private school for individuals with severe autism and related disabilities. We are a collaborative, team-based environment of passionate teachers serving children ages 5 to 21. Using the DIR/Floortime philosophy as a true north, we prepare an environment that nurtures the healthy development of each of our unique students, as well as our staff.

JOB DUTIES MAY INCLUDE:
• Create play-based activities for parts of the school day.
• Assist participants in all school activities.
• Actively interact with students with positive and encouraging demeanor at all times.
• Carry out recreational/educational activities using the DIR/Floortime techniques.
• Instruct assigned classes according to specific instructions provided by teachers.
• Get familiar with teaching methodologies and daily schedule of each class
• Monitor students in accordance to directions provided by teacher.
This is a UNIQUE opportunity to work in an environment where the DIR FLOORTIME approach is applied in all aspects of the students’ daily schedule. You will learn to work with the special needs population in a different way and experience the power of play in the development, well-being and education of individuals with autism and related disabilities.
We offer on going DIR training and the possibility to get a certification for those who show true interest in the approach.
