Transportation Planner
TRANSPORTATION PLANNER
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Manager of Transportation Operations, you will oversee daily planning of transportation, for finished goods and raw/packaging materials through the Supply Chain, including both customer and stock transfer orders. You will support defined financial goals and metrics related to transportation management, including load factors, mode usage and route guide compliance. You will participate on project teams and train new employees on systems and our processes. You will provide operational excellence and work with cross functional partners to promote the supply chain vision. You will support end-to-end supply chain analytics platforms through data extraction, manipulation, visualization, and presentation.
Position Responsibilities:
- Participate in transportation related projects and contribute feedback for system improvement and process efficiency
- Help with supply chain vision initiative projects supporting through analytics and operational expertise
- Implement daily coverage for loads shipping between facilities and to our customers
- Collaborate with facility daily on issues regarding loads not covered or picked up
- Be the point of contact for communication back to customer service and inventory deployment regarding carrier failures or issues
- Address daily reports showing loads appointed for delivery after the Required Delivery Date (RDD) or that have no delivery appt. day before delivery
- Organize and consolidate LTL/TL shipments into truckloads while reducing transportation expense
- Follow route guide compliance and work to use awarded carriers to reduce transportation costs
- Escalate and identify issues to Transportation Planning Managers regarding facility, carrier or customer trends
- Partner with procurement and operations management to analyze lane opportunities by carrier or customer
- Work with sites and customer service on order issues at the warehouse level
- Retrigger and understand systemic handoff points between order management, warehousing and transportation
Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Supply Chain Management or related field
- Bachelor's Degree
- Transportation, analytics, or supply chain experience.
- Understanding of reporting systems, and knowledge of excel
- Microsoft Word, Excel (can maintain complex spreadsheets), Outlook, Access, Oracle, SAP and technical skills
- Experience in data manipulation and visualization
- Work with other departments including Inventory Deployment, Customer Service and Project Teams
- Understanding of transportation management terms and concepts
