Coordinator of Internship Programs - Higher Education Intern (Campus Career and Advising Services)

UNDERGRADUATE INTERNSHIP IN HIGHER EDUCATION ADMINISTRATION


Position Title: Coordinator of Internship Programs
Pay Rate: $17.00 per hour
Hours: 10-15 per week during the spring semester

This internship is designed to advance the interests and preparation of students considering higher education and student affairs (HESA) master’s programs or the larger profession of higher education administration.



Learning Outcomes

As a result of this undergraduate internship in higher education administration, the intern will:
  1. Develop and practice skills in career advising and program management applicable to a career in higher education
  2. Understand and apply experiential learning and career development theory while advising internship program participants
  3. Learn and employ assessment methods to measure what internship participants are learning in their work experiences
  4. Research and prepare for the master’s degree application process
  5. Listen actively, building relationships with peers and professionals (IUPUI+ COMMUNICATOR)
  6. Manage relationships with intern employers in the community (IUPUI+ COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTOR)


Description

The Coordinator of Internship Programs works closely with staff in Campus Career and Advising Services, with career services staff in IUPUI schools, and with intern employers to provide programming and internship coordination for cohorts of students participating in the Sophomore Internship Program (under-represented students). The coordinator also manages the critical reflection processes for students seeking internship recognition on the record of experiential and applied learning. This position will gain theoretical and practical knowledge in the areas of experiential learning and career development.


Responsibilities

  • Deliver group workshops and individual coaching on resume development, interview skills, and professionalism for prospective and current interns.
  • Maintain communications with interns throughout their experiences.
  • Conduct virtual site visits with current interns and their supervisors.
  • Assign and assess interns’ ePortfolio work, reflecting on their learning.
  • Manage processes for assessing interns’ critical reflections for awarding of credit on the record of experiential and applied learning.
  • Participate in regular meetings of program staff.



Qualifications

  • Senior with a 3.0 IU GPA in any bachelor’s degree program at IUPUI
  • Interest in Higher Education/Student Affairs administration master's programs
  • Commitment to experiential learning
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Commitment to working with a broad range of people in an urban setting
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in standard office technology and web applications
