Social Media Strategy Internship (Office of the Dean of Students)

The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program

The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program allows students to spend a summer handling a special project for the university designed to prepare them for life after graduation. Interns will work 19 hours per week for 10-weeks. These part-time internship positions offer a competitive compensation package that includes an hourly wage. Due to COVID-19, we are currently planning for each of our internships to take place virtually. Housing assistance may be provided on a case by case basis after internship positions are offered. Undergraduate students are eligible to apply. The internship runs from May 31, 2021 to August 6, 2021. The application is due February 14, 2021.

The Office

The Office of the Dean of Students is committed to helping all students at the University of Texas at Austin reach their fullest potential. Our office provides a variety of student support services along with opportunities for leadership experience, diverse student work environments, engaging programming and specialized resources.  The Office of the Dean of Students includes 10 specialized service areas: Leadership and Ethics Institute, Legal Services for Students, Legislative Student Organizations, Dean of Students Research Institute, Sorority and Fraternity Life, Student Activities, Student Conduct and Academic Integrity, Student Emergency Services, and Student Veteran Services.

The Project

Assist the Director of Strategic and Executive Communications and Marketing Coordinator with social media planning, compilation and strategy for the Office of the Dean of Students and all the units within. Students work in a fast-paced and changing environment to review research into Office social accounts, past posts and marketing plan for the upcoming year to categorize, identify and create content to calendar and prepare the 2021-2022 academic year.

Things You’ll Do

  • Design a subject and event-based content calendar including all 10 units in the Office of the Dean of Students, using provided messaging documents, research and previously created content.
  • Create content for different topics, audiences, platforms, events and programs to be calendared for the upcoming year.
  • Use social media management tools (SproutSocial) to schedule content across platforms.
  • Maintain office voice and individual consistency for different audiences, units and projects.
  • Respond appropriately to feedback, offer suggestions and find solutions for engaging content.

Who You Are (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Communications major preferred
  • Experience with social media management or promotion (for a class, student organization, or job) a plus
  • Position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, receptiveness to feedback and the ability to produce results with limited supervision
