Program Description:

This partnership project is managed by the Oregon Health Authority in Portland. The Leader collaborates directly with the Project Director and fellow VISTA Leaders on various projects that support members in many ways. The Leader will help lead a team of 30 VISTA members serving at sites throughout Oregon to fight poverty and increase access to affordable healthcare resources. The team meets regularly, attending various public health and leadership trainings, and participating in national service day projects. The VISTA team members support public health programs such as Behavioral Health, Health Equity, and Vulnerable Population initiatives. The VISTA Leader serves at our state office in Portland (remotely during COVID). Portland is Oregon’s cultural center, dense with independent movie theaters and art galleries. The exceptional public transit system makes it easy to get around without a car, whether you’re visiting a food cart pod or a public park. Member Duties:

We are recruiting for two VISTA Leaders who will be responsible for leading the spring team consisting of approximately 12 VISTA team members and supporting the full team of approximately 30 members in partnership with the fall VISTA Leaders. The Leader serves as an ambassador, facilitator, educator, liaison, mentor, recruiter, and resource generator for the team. Responsibilities include planning trainings and events for VISTA members, coordinating travel, resolving conflict, solving problems, managing social media content, public speaking, and engaging in professional development. VISTA members across the state serve to fight poverty, and the Leader position plays a critical role in assisting with these efforts. The VISTA Leader position is open to former VISTAs, AmeriCorps members, or returned Peace Corps volunteers who demonstrated exemplary skills and leadership in community service and completed at least 50% of their service term.
