Communications Internship (Longhorn Wellness Center)

The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program

The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program allows students to spend a summer handling a special project for the university designed to prepare them for life after graduation. Interns will work 19 hours per week for 10-weeks. These part-time internship positions offer a competitive compensation package that includes an hourly wage. Due to COVID-19, we are currently planning for each of our internships to take place virtually. Housing assistance may be provided on a case by case basis after internship positions are offered. Undergraduate students are eligible to apply. The internship runs from May 31, 2021 to August 6, 2021. The application is due February 14, 2021.

The Office

The Longhorn Wellness Center (LWC) supports the missions of University Health Services and the Counseling and Mental Health Center by addressing priority college health issues. We do this using multi-level, evidence-based prevention strategies such as peer education, social marketing, social norm campaigns, environmental changes, and strategic campus partnerships.

The Project

The intern will review and create web content for the Longhorn Wellness website. They will assist with health communication material development and create promotion content. The intern will assist with social media analytics and propose news ideas to promote the Longhorn Wellness programs and services. The intern may have potential work on other communication projects as need arises.

Things You’ll Do

  • Conduct a website review of Longhorn Wellness related content to update for accuracy and user friendliness  
  • Create web content as needed about Longhorn Wellness programs and services and health topics  
  • Assist with health communication material development, including concepts for displays in the Forty Acre Pharmacy, UHS clinics, etc.  
  • Create health promotion content for social media channels  
  • Assist with social media analytics to inform future posts  
  • Propose new ideas for ways Longhorn Wellness can promote programs and services to students on campus 
  • Potentially work on other communications projects as need arises 
  • Participate in all required Division of Student Affairs Internship Program cohort activities and assessments

Who You Are (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience creating web content and/or marketing materials  
  • Coursework or experience in promoting health via communication channels
