Human Resources Internship (University Health Services)

The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program 
 
The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program allows students to spend a summer handling a special project for the university designed to prepare them for life after graduation. Interns will work 19 hours per week for 10-weeks. These part-time internship positions offer a competitive compensation package that includes an hourly wage. Due to COVID-19, we are currently planning for each of our internships to take place virtually. Housing assistance may be provided on a case by case basis after internship positions are offered. Undergraduate students are eligible to apply. The internship runs from May 31, 2021 to August 6, 2021. The application is due February 14, 2021.

The Office

University Health Services enhances learning and student success with accessible and compassionate services and initiatives and aspires to become distinguished as the best college health service in the nation. The Human Resources Team supports the missions of University Health Services and the Counseling and Mental Health Center.

The Project

The Human Resources Intern will audit and update position descriptions to reflect current duties in the new system. They will expand/improve our new hire tracking checklist/mechanism that enables human resources personnel to follow up with new employees at one-week mark, one-month mark, and 6-month mark. Collaborate with other human resources representatives within the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs to coordinate a strategy for managing specific human resources processes. The intern will participate in internship program activities and complete required components, including three self-assessments, a reflection essay, and a program evaluation. The intern will have other duties as assigned.

Things You’ll Do

  • Audit and update position descriptions to reflect current duties in the new system
  • Expand/improve our new hire tracking checklist/mechanism that enables human resources personnel to follow up with new employees at one week mark, one month mark, and 6 month mark
  • Maintain confidential personnel files and personnel actions
  • Collaborate with other human resources representatives within the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs to coordinate a strategy for managing specific human resources processes, such as researching tracking checklist/mechanisms created by other departments, or creating one in collaboration with other departments if there are none in existence
  • Participate in all required Division of Student Affairs Internship Program cohort activities and assessments

Who You Are (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Educational background in business, with emphasis in Human Resources or other business-related field
  • Basic understanding of databases and online software
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Self-starter and able to work autonomously with minimal supervision
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Preferred: Familiar or comfortable with HRMS/HRIS
