Student Programs Internship (University Unions)

The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program 
 
The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program allows students to spend a summer handling a special project for the university designed to prepare them for life after graduation. Interns will work 19 hours per week for 10-weeks. These part-time internship positions offer a competitive compensation package that includes an hourly wage. Due to COVID-19, we are currently planning for each of our internships to take place virtually. Housing assistance may be provided on a case by case basis after internship positions are offered. Undergraduate students are eligible to apply. The internship runs from May 31, 2021 to August 6, 2021. The application is due February 14, 2021.

The Office

The mission of the University Unions is to enhance the student experience and to enrich campus life by providing cultural, educational, social and recreational programs as well as related goods and services to the campus community. The Student Programs office, which is partially comprised of Campus Events + Entertainment, contributes to the Unions' mission through student engagement, student leadership, and campus programming.

The Project

Our internship main task would be assisting with Campus Events + Entertainment (E+E) and summer programming initiatives. The main sections of this project are typically 1) planning and executing E+E and summer orientation programs, and 2) helping plan E+E and welcome week events. Specifically, the intern will brainstorm orientation activities, reach out to vendors, help write and oversee the University contracting process for vendor, and act as day-of contact for vendors. The student will manage event budgets for orientation programs and welcome week event(s) and help manage E+E events. The intern will collaborate with campus partners to plan welcome week event(s) and work alongside summer student employees to support summer programs and office operation.

Things You’ll Do

  • Brainstorming late-night orientation activities
  • Reaching out to vendors to bring activities for late-night orientation programs, Beat the Heat, and Back to School Bash
  • Helping write and oversee the University contracting process for vendors
  • Acting as day-of contact for vendors and helping manage E+E's late-night orientation events
  • Collaborating with campus partners to plan Beat the Heat and Back to School Bash
  • Managing event budgets for late-night orientation events, Beat the Heat, and Back to School Bash
  • Working alongside summer student employees to support summer programs and office operations
  • Participate in all required Division of Student Affairs Internship Program cohort activities and assessments

Who You Are (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Must be currently enrolled student
  • Preference will be given to upperclassmen
  • Interest and experience in event planning and event management preferred, but experience not required
