Sustainability Outreach Internship (University Housing & Dining)

The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program 
 
The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program allows students to spend a summer handling a special project for the university designed to prepare them for life after graduation. Interns will work 19 hours per week for 10-weeks. These part-time internship positions offer a competitive compensation package that includes an hourly wage. Due to COVID-19, we are currently planning for each of our internships to take place virtually. Housing assistance may be provided on a case by case basis after internship positions are offered. Undergraduate students are eligible to apply. The internship runs from May 31, 2021 to August 6, 2021. The application is due February 14, 2021.

The Office

University Housing and Dining (UHD) at The University of Texas at Austin seeks to foster a living and learning experience of environmental stewardship and sustainability awareness. UHD makes the effort to develop students and staff who are engaged citizens of the world by increasing their understanding of sustainable living practices and underlining how these practices effect their world. The UHD Sustainability implements policies and procedures that support the decrease of the organization’s ecological footprint and make sustainability awareness and practices guiding principles. 

The Project

This position will assist in the development and operations of sustainability programs and outreach throughout New Student Orientation. This includes organizing educational opportunities through passive (signage, flyers, etc.) and active (tabling, events, etc.) efforts. Although this internship will assist in addressing all areas of sustainability, there will be a particular focus on proper waste sorting and waste diversion. The intern will develop program outcomes and goals, assemble programming materials, and serve as spokesperson for campus' sustainability efforts and opportunities. The student will develop signage, written materials and optionally work in the gardens. Participate in all required Division of Student Affairs Internship Program cohort activities and assessments

Things You’ll Do

  • Assist in the development and operations of sustainability programs and outreach throughout New Student Orientation.
