Wellness Internship (Longhorn Wellness Center)

The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program

The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program allows students to spend a summer handling a special project for the university designed to prepare them for life after graduation. Interns will work 19 hours per week for 10-weeks. These part-time internship positions offer a competitive compensation package that includes an hourly wage. Due to COVID-19, we are currently planning for each of our internships to take place virtually. Housing assistance may be provided on a case by case basis after internship positions are offered. Undergraduate students are eligible to apply. The internship runs from May 31, 2021 to August 6, 2021. The application is due February 14, 2021.

The Office

A student's health and their ability to thrive academically are closely linked. The Longhorn Wellness Center (LWC) supports the missions of University Health Services and the Counseling and Mental Health Center by addressing priority college health issues. We do this using multi-level, evidence-based prevention strategies such as peer education, social marketing, social norm campaigns, environmental changes, and strategic campus partnerships.

The Project

The position will provide support for general Longhorn Wellness Center (LWC) outreach programming, including the development, implementation, and evaluation of physical health and nutrition related programs and interventions. The intern will complete research into relevant health and wellness topics and assist with developing innovative ways to deliver our programming virtually. The intern will develop and/or edit material and updates for website and/or other communication channels.

Things You’ll Do

  • Complete research into relevant health and wellness topics
  • Assist with developing innovative ways to deliver programming virtually
  • Develop and/or edit material and updates for website and/or other communication channels
  • Participate in all required Division of Student Affairs Internship Program cohort activities and assessments 

Who You Are (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Background (through coursework, past/current employment, or other avenues of learning) in health and wellness related areas.
  • Ability to work independently, follow-up on assignments, and take initiative on projects.
  • Strong written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to non-judgmental approach to a variety of health and wellness topics that is inclusive of a diverse range of values and viewpoints.
  • Familiarity with campus culture and events.
