Student Leader Application 2021-2022 Academic Year

We are seeking student leaders for the 2021-2022 Academic Year!

About Residential Life:
Residential Life at San Francisco State University is a department within the purview of the Dean of Students cabinet area of the division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. Residential Life provides comfortable and equitable living accommodations and out-of-the-classroom learning experiences for approximately 4,500 students each academic year (pre-COVID).
 
General Position Requirements:
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA cumulative and semester. We will review your GPA from the completion of your Fall 2020 semester to determine academic eligibility.
  • Students of second year status or higher.
  • Be in good conduct standing with Housing and the University.
  • Enrolled in a minimum of 15 units undergraduate / 9 units graduate for the Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 semesters.
  • Desire and passion to help students learn and be successful here at San Francisco State University.
  • Strong ability to manage and mediate conflict.
  • Interest and/or passion for equity, inclusion and social justice.

Description of Student Leader Opportunities:
Throughout the academic year, Residential Life offers live-in leadership opportunities to Resident Assistants (RA), Lead Desk Assistants (LDA), and Project Assistants (PA) to facilitate growth, development, and support for students across seven unique residential living communities.
 
Resident Assistant (RA):
Resident Assistants are directly responsible for a floor, wing or specific blocks of residential students within a community. RAs serve to support, mentor, peer-lead, and model positive behavior for their residents. They are responsible for creating an open, supporting, and inclusive community, managing and mediating conflict between residents, intentionally interacting and building relationship with residents, offering resources to students who are struggling, upholding and enforcing the Student Code of Conduct and Community Living Standards, and assisting in crisis and emergency situations. 

Lead Desk Assistant (LDA):
LDAs are driven by the desire to promote an efficient and friendly community desk program. As a LDA, you are the guiding force of customer service in Residential Life by handling valuable procedures related to desk schedules, keys, and mail. LDAs directly assist the Residential Coordinators of Resident Services in advising a staff of up to 30 student staff assistants who operate the community front desk, and assist in running front and back end operations. LDAs are administrative managers in the making!

Compensation:
All live-in compensated student leaders are provided credit that covers housing for the full academic year (Fall 2021 - Spring 2022), as well as a meal plan for all effective dates of the License Agreement and department mandated training. Live-in student leaders are also given priority registration--this is to be used to keep Wednesdays from 4 PM-6 PM available for weekly team meetings.

Important Information:
  • Due to the COVID pandemic, we are unable to provide how many positions the department will need, as it is dependent on how many students SF State is approved to house for the Fall 2021 semester.
  • Candidates not selected as a student leader may be placed in the alternate candidate pool. Alternates may be contacted if there is a position vacancy.
  • We suggest all candidates to also apply for on-campus housing (a separate process). In the situation you are not selected as a student leader, your housing application may provide you an opportunity to live on-campus as a regular student resident. For information to apply for on-campus housing, please visit: https://housing.sfsu.edu/apply. At the time of this job post, the housing application is not available.
