Project Intern - Collection & Resource Management
JOB DESCRIPTION:
3W Archives Relocation Project Intern, Golda Meir Library
**Graduate student in the Library and Information Science MLIS program preferred.
This internship will require a commitment of 15-20 hours per week, weekdays between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm for the duration of the project (December 2020-June 2021)
Under the supervision of a Collection & Resource Management librarian, the intern will:
- Pull books from the shelves in the Golda Meir Library, carefully comparing call numbers and barcodes against the provided list
- Review completed trucks of books
- Remove books not found from the list of barcodes
- Create and manage sets in Alma, the UWM library service platform
- Run batch withdraw jobs in Alma; confirm accuracy of results
- Mark, stamp, and prepare withdraw books for shipping to a reseller
- Maintain statistics to assess the progress of the project
This position requires the following abilities:
- Careful attention to detail
- Able to read and interpret Library of Congress call numbers
- Able to bend, kneel, lift and carry books, and to use a step stool to reach books on upper shelves
- Able to push fully loaded trucks of books
- Experience with Excel spreadsheets
- Able to take direction and consult frequently with supervising librarian(s)
The following skills are preferred:
- Experience with Alma
- Knowledge of MARC 21 Formats for Bibliographic and Holdings Data
