The Gulf Shores, Alabama Police Department will be conducting testing for Gulf Shores Police Officer on June 23, 2023. Anyone who is aspiring to become a police officer or is a police officer is strongly encouraged to attend this testing. The day will begin with an orientation, followed by the physical agility test, written test, and oral interview. The process will likely take most of the day and is usually concluded sometime in the evening. Candidates who pass these phases of the hiring process will continue into the background investigation, polygraph, psychological evaluation, and drug and health screening at a later date.

The City of Gulf Shores is located on a 9 mile stretch of beautiful white sand beaches of the Gulf of Mexico coastline in South Alabama. According to the 2020 U.S. Census, Gulf Shores experienced the largest percentage of population growth in the State of Alabama raising the population to approximately 16,000 permanent residents. In a recent Residential Satisfaction Survey, the Gulf Shores Police Department received a 98% satisfaction rate from our residents. Gulf Shores is a tourist destination and resort community which can swell to well over 100,000 visitors at any time. The City of Gulf Shores serves as host to several special events to include the Hangout Music Fest, The International Shrimp Festival, and the NCAA Women’s Beach Volleyball Championship which are held directly on the beach. When fully staffed, our department consists of 60 sworn officers and 24 non-sworn personnel. We offer various assignments within our agency to include: Patrol, Investigations, K-9, Field Training Officer, School Resource Officer, Narcotics, SWAT, Marine Division/Search and Recovery Dive Team, Beach/Bike Patrol, Honor Guard, and Drone Unit.

As of January 1st 2023, the minimum starting salary for a Gulf Shores police officer will be approximately $51,000.00 - $69,344.03 for Non-Post Certified, and approximately $55,000.00 - $69,344.03 for POST certified officers. Benefits Package:

Another program we are excited to announce are one-time hiring bonuses for POST certified police officers. That bonus structure is as follows: POST certified officer: $1,000 POST certified with 2-5 years' experience: $2,500 POST certified with 5-10 years' experience: $5,000 POST certified with more than 10 years' experience: $7,500 Most out of state experienced officers we screen meet APOSTC requirements for a three week lateral academy. Minimum Qualifications for Police Officer Must be able to obtain a valid Alabama driver’s license and be insurable by the City’s insurance carrier. High School diploma/GED required. Successful candidate must be able to pass background check, including motor vehicle report, polygraph, physical and alcohol/drug screen Must be at least 21 years of age and able to pass a physical agility test. The Physical Agility test consists of: 1.5 mile run to be completed within 15 minutes 28 seconds, 25 sit ups to be completed within one minute, 22 push-ups to be completed within one minute and an untimed 300 meter nonstop swim in any swimming stroke or strokes chosen by the participant.
