IT Specialist I (Project Manager)

Under general administrative direction of the Information Technology Supervisor II (IT SUP II) , the Information Technology Specialist I (IT Spec I) acts as lead in the role of Project Manager over the most complex and high-risk information technology (IT) projects. High-risk assignments involve projects with critically tight schedules and cost constraints, use of unfamiliar technologies, high implementation costs, and/or high visibility. The Project Manager will typically be responsible for concurrent management of multiple projects. The IT Spec I acts as an IT subject matter expert by independently identifying IT business process improvement opportunities, initiating and managing complex IT projects, delineating business needs, and ensuring the department is in compliance with control agency requirements for IT projects. The IT Spec I, independently manages IT projects to ensure customer needs are met, departmental standards are followed, and project milestones and deliverables are accomplished on-time and within budget. This position serves as Information Technology Representative to specific domain(s).

Minimum Qualifications

Two years as an Information Technology Associate; or

Four years of general information technology experience performing technical and/or analytical tasks for computer systems or services in any of the six domains or emerging information technology fields; or

120 semester units (or 180 quarter units) from an accredited college or university including at least 15 semester units (or 22.5 quarter units) of information technology or closely related course work; or

Any equivalent combination of experience and education.

When using education to meet the general experience requirements listed in the minimum qualifications, education must include the specified information technology or closely related course work. Closely related course work refers to a course of study involving the study of computing, such as software engineering, computer engineering, Management Information Systems, Geographic Information System, and computing technology.
