Direct Support Professional -- DSP
Provide support services to intellectual and developmentally disabled (I/DD) individuals in group homes and supervised apartments in Camden, Gloucester & Burlington Counties.
Minimum age requirement of twenty-one (21) years; have a valid Driver’s license; have a high school diploma or GED.
After completing agency provided training, the DSP is responsible for providing support services to group homes & supervised apartments with individuals who may present challenging behaviors as well as may need extensive direct care support with daily living skills.
· Ensure that the individuals and the environment are safe;
· Communicate information regarding individual progress and concerns to the residential manager;
· Provide teamwork in flexibility to provide coverage at alternate sites if needed;
· Be responsible for the care of ambulatory, non-ambulatory, and Medically complex individuals, i.e. support individuals with daily living skills, eating, bathing, feeding, toileting, lifts and transfers, etc.;
· Ensure that the upkeep and care of durable medical equipment, prosthetic devices and adaptive equipment is maintained;
· Participate in the acclimation of newly assigned DSP’s with regard to the home and the care of the individuals;
· Provide medication administration;
· Collaborate with other team members in meal preparations and clean up;
· Participate in planning for meaningful activities in the community
· Transport individuals to programs and other community-based designations/activities
· Provide teamwork in maintaining housekeeping responsibilities, i.e., cleaning and organization of the home;
· May be asked to complete shopping for the individuals in the home
· Maintain money management according to the policy and procedure for finances;
· Attend all training as scheduled;
· Promote advocacy while attending medical appointments;
· Ensure safety of the individuals by maintaining the necessary staffing in the home, even following your scheduled shift until another team member arrives;
· Complete daily assigned progress notes in THERAP prior to leaving your shift;
· Complete and review the daily communication log;
· Complete all other program assignments, activities and tasks as delegated by the residential manager.
