Position Details
Stewards Individual Placement Program (SIPP) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health. SIPP in partnership with the National Park Service are seeking an AmeriCorps Member who will support the creation, growth, and development of youth programs at National Park Service (NPS) sites throughout the National Capital Area Region inclusive of all District of Columbia National Park sites, many immediately nearby and extending westward to include Harpers Ferry National Historical Park and Antietam National Battlefield.
 
While not directly overseeing or managing a youth program, the AmeriCorps Member will provide support to each of the parks in creating, coordinating, and enhancing their youth programs. This will be accomplished specifically through the creation of a new youth and young adult onboarding and professional development toolkit, regional internal youth program website (created through MS Sharepoint), training & templates for the annual youth and young adult project request process, youth program assessment tool, leading the coordination of the annual regional Summer Youth Summit, and redeveloping and initially leading the Youth Programs Committee consisting of youth coordinators throughout the region as well as supporting any other NPS regional or national Youth Programs initiatives.
 
Position Responsibilities will include:
  • Coordinate with youth and young adults currently serving at other parks
  • Assist in the continuing development of the Youth Program Website
  • Support parks in annual project development
  • Lead in the coordination of the annual regional Summer Youth Summit
 
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • United States Citizen or legal resident
  • 18-30 years of age to be eligible for AmeriCorps Education Award
 
 
 Preferred Qualifications:
  • Any level of experience working with youth and young adult programs
  • Able to communicate effectively
  • Able to work independently
