PRIMARY FUNCTION: The purpose of this classification is to perform probationary, entry level firefighting and trainee level pre-hospital emergency medical assistance work in combating, extinguishing, and preventing fires, and in responding to medical emergencies that is designed to help the Town’s Fire Department respond effectively to fires, medical emergencies, natural disasters, and man-made emergency situations.
QUALIFICATIONS: Requires a High School diploma or GED with course concentration in the physical sciences or industrial arts; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Must be 21 years of age at time of hire. Must possess a valid Paramedic license as outlined in the rules and regulations by the Tennessee Department of Health and Environment and maintain license throughout employment Incumbents must establish and maintain their actual bona fide residence within a distance no greater than thirty (30) miles from a firehouse within the Town’s corporate limits. Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony or any misdemeanor that involved force, liquor, or drug laws. Applicants who have military service must possess an “Honorable” discharge. Incumbents must satisfactorily complete a one (1) year probationary period.
SPECIAL REQUISITES: Must successfully complete within one (1) year of employment a Firefighter I certification, as outlined in the rules and regulations by the Tennessee Commission on Firefighter Standards and Education.
LICENSES: Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.
NOTES: Tasks require the regular and sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that generally involves lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavy objects and materials (exceeding 50 pounds). Must be able to pass a work-related physical and drug test. Some evening hours will be required
Selection process may include: examinations, interviews, assessment centers, practical skills, etc. Drug testing may be required.
