Budget Specialist Intern
This 24-week program is a rigorous work and learning experience that provides exposure to the Forest Service, development and training opportunities, and the opportunity to make a lasting impression on generations to come. Participants will gain experience in budget and financial support. Specific duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Perform a variety of budget analysis functions in assigned areas
- Prepare or assist in the preparation of budget estimates and justifications
- Interpret budgetary guidance and preparing guidance to subunit managers and unit staff on budget and program areas
- Review unit and office budget submissions for reasonableness, accuracy, and conformance with procedures and guidelines
- Monitor budget and recommending reprogramming of funds as needed
- Evaluate data submitted for consistency with historical data, current levels of operations, and anticipated changes in staffing and/or funding levels
- Perform complex analysis of budget requests, current year activity, and historical data to assist operating officials in making funding decisions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance
- Understanding of Microsoft Office software, an emphasis on Excel
- Be willing to move to locations in the Southeast
- Be interested in working in and fostering an inclusive work environment
- Have an interest in natural resources, public service and connecting people to their public lands
Benefits:
$12.50-15/Hour Depending on Experience
$1,500 for Professional Development (travel, training, etc.)
$1,000/month Housing Stipend
