Planning Resource Assistant Position with the National Forest in North Carolina Supervisor's Office
Location: Supervisor's Office, National Forests in North Carolina
- This 24-week program is a rigorous work and learning experience that provides exposure to the Forest Service, development and training opportunities, and the opportunity to make a lasting impression on generations to come. Participants will gain experience in natural resources planning and environmental law compliance. Specific duties will include, but are not limited to:Support the team leader and an interdisciplinary team of specialists with finalizing the Nantahala and Pisgah forest master plan and the associated Environmental Impact Statement. The plan revision effort addresses the most pressing issues facing the Forest Service today including ecosystem restoration, water, climate change, sustainable recreation, adaptive management, maintaining vibrant communities.
- Work alongside an interdisciplinary planning team will provide an introduction to these issues in the context of a full forest environment. Tasks would include review, organizing and responding to public comments, and incorporating changes in the plan and analysis-based on public input.
- Performs reconnaissance by collecting, and analyzing data needed for preparation of environmental and forest plan documents.
- Communicate with resource managers such as wildlife, heritage, recreation, timber and fire.
- Degree Requirements:Master's Degree in Natural Resources
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including experience writing about technical topics for general audiences
- Strong organization skills and attention to detail
- Experience in natural resource policy or law review is not required but would be valuable

$22/Hour
$1,500 for Professional Development (travel, training, etc.)
