Wean-Finish Technician

The purpose of the Wean-Finish Herd Technician is to work multiple tasks in various company run wean and / or finish sites, to optimize animal care, health and efficiencies in this stage of production, and maintain sites per SFI protocols.

Specifically, the Wean-Finish Herd Technician is responsible for the following activities:
  • Daily walk through of sites to monitor herd health and welfare as assigned by Supervisors
  • Treat & work with sick and injured animals
  • Vaccination of animals
  • Be responsible for daily care of animals
  • Closely communicate with Supervisor in regards to herd health issues
  • Monitor feed levels of sites assigned by Supervisors, coordinate with site Supervisor and Feed Procurement Specialist at SFI office on ordering and any other feed issues, up to and including climbing bins to accurately determine feed levels.
  • Monitor feeder settings of sites assigned by Supervisors
  • Assure proper watering of animals at sites assigned by Supervisors
  • Ensure proper barn ventilation, understand and know controllers
  • Ensure company standards in regards to site cleanliness and appearance including but not limited to barn area, office area per weekly protocol, parking area, driveways, pest and rodent control, general yard work including but not limited to lawn and weed control.
  • Test site generators and recording results per protocol on a weekly basis.
  • Ensure alarm systems are working properly and are tested on a weekly basis
  • Respond to alarm calls of assigned sites, if not physically available to respond notify appropriate personnel.
  • Report any findings of pit foaming or crusting to supervisor
  • General barn maintenance and upkeep to ensure animal welfare and health
  • Maintain bio-security protocols as established by company
  • Assist in power washing, as assigned
  • Assist filling barns with animals
  • Assist in loading and emptying of barns
  • Ensure the proper handling and removal of dead animals in a timely manner and ensure all regulatory agency requirements are being met
  • Maintain appropriate herd records per company protocols
  • Advocate and engage in SFI’s animal welfare policy, including promoting animal well-being, remedying circumstances which impede animal care, and properly reporting instances of mistreatment or abuse
  • Adhere to all company vehicle policies, and follow all local, state and federal regulations associated with operating a motor vehicle
  • Be capable of lifting a minimum of 50 lbs with reasonable accommodation
  • Maintain PQA certification status
