Residental Director - Mental Health Setting

What is New Haven?

The Opportunity:
New Haven specializes in complex issues such as traumatic stress, family problems, relationship issues, depression, anxiety, self-harm, suicidal idealization, eating disorder, substance abuse, attachment disorders, and personality disorders. We are growing, which means we can take in more girls and help support them on their recovery journey, but it also means that we need the staffing to grow too!
So what's the position? We are seeking to hire a new Residential Director (RD). RD's are responsible for managing, training, and leading the youth mentors and supervisors within the RD's assigned house. The RD makes decisions regarding scheduling, safety, and staffing. They are ultimately responsible for the care and supervision of the students and the performance of the residential staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilites:
An effective RD
  • Directs and manages the mentors and supervisors in her/his house. Rewards employees for exceptional work.
  • Delegates responsibility to shift members and supervisors as appropriate.
  • Works in cooperation with the HR Recruiter throughout the hiring process and makes the final hiring decision.
  • Provides on-shift orientation for new hires using the orientation checklist provided. Provides new supervisors with orientation and ongoing training. 
  • Trains shift members and Supervisors on an ongoing basis and formally each week in a shift training meeting.
  • Evaluates shift members on an ongoing basis and formally with a quarterly evaluation.
  • Is responsible for disciplining shift staff as needed.  Formal methods of discipline include: verbal warning, write-up, probation, suspension, and termination.
  • Participates in a weekly treatment team meeting. 
  • Conducts safety drills on a quarterly basis and instructs other supervisors to do likewise.
  • Effectively manages residential budget for her/his house.
  • Is responsible for the cleanliness of the house, 
  • Communicates frequently by telephone and email to parents about student's progress, needs, and expectations for that family. 
  • Is responsible for implementing treatment team decisions regarding interventions and therapeutic direction.
Qualifications:
  • 2 years of prior residential treatment center experience is required; we need you to be familiar with the treatment center environment in order to manage it appropriately
  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field of study is preferred, but not required
  • Must be at least 21 years old
