Mechanical Engineering Co-op - Fall 2020

Micromeritics is seeking a co-op student in our Mechanical Engineering department. This student will work alongside Micromeritics engineers to assist with the mechanical and some electrical details of designing, building and troubleshooting Micromeritics Scientific Instruments in both production support and new product development.

Specific Co-op Duties:
  • Document designs by creating CAD drawings of assemblies, parts, and cables using SolidWorks
  • Assist with parts procurement and mechanical construction for prototype builds
  • Assist with engineering, mathematical and scientific analysis as required to support design/development of new and existing products
  • Work with vendors to acquire purchased component specifications and drawings
  • Assist with component testing (building test fixtures, creating test programs, collecting data, graphic representation of results, statistical analysis, verify performance)
  • Assist with assembly and checkout of prototypes

Mechanical Engineering Co-Ops will develop experiential knowledge in the following:
  • Product design and development process
  • Product design maintenance and obsolescence
  • Feasibility testing design and practices
  • 3D CAD Solid Modeling of parts and assembly models
  • Development of 2D detail drawings and bills of materials (BOMs)

Schedule: 40 hours per week during Micromeritics core business hours (7:30am – 4:15pm)

Compensation: Micromeritics offers an increasing compensation scale for returning co-ops. 
  • 1st work term: $15/hour
  • 2nd work term: $16/hour
  • 3rd work term: $17/hour
  • 4th+ work term: $18/hour

Requirements:
Education: Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university co-op program, pursing a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Must have completed Freshman year.

Knowledge & Skills: 
  • At least 1 semester of CAD experience required; SolidWorks preferred
  • Familiarity with MATLAB preferred
  • Familiarity with Solid Edge and/or CADKEY a plus
  • Strong MS Office Suite skills (Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • VBA skills a plus
  • Excellent math skills
  • Strong problem-solving ability
  • Good mechanical aptitude for working with tools
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs.

MICROMERITICS CO-OPS
Co-ops are available to students actively enrolled in an accredited college or university co-op program. All co-ops are paid positions with an increasing compensation scale for co-ops returning for additional work terms. During a work term, co-ops work 40 hours per week, usually during Micromeritics' core business hours (7:30am - 4:15pm).
