INTERNSHIP for ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION

INTERNSHIP SUMMARY - The intern will work to advance the organization’s education programs (focused around marine debris, water quality, public shoreline access, environmental sustainability, and composting) and engage the community of Aquidneck Island in high-impact high-value experiential environmental education and outreach. Along the way the intern will also gain critical insight into the nonprofit sector, education and program planning process, and the ever-evolving interaction between COA and the community. The work effort involves the use of diverse technologies, systems, approaches, and working closely with teams that are using multimedia tools and science communication skills to advance the mission and impact of the organization. The candidate selected for this internship will work proactively with the staff, board, community scientists, and volunteers and will report to the programming team on all education
and outreach and office activities.
INTERNSHIP DETAILS –
- Schedule: Weekdays (2-3 days dependent on schedule) and some weekday evenings and weekends for events.
- Hours: 10 hours/week
- Compensation: TBD
- Location: Office located at 21 John Clarke Road, Middletown, Rhode Island. Field work at various locations around Aquidneck Island.
- Specific Duties: Work may include school composting efforts, after-school educational programs, virtual programs, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS -
Demonstrates commitment, trustworthiness, responsibility, and attention to detail. Excellent
communication skills. Enjoys working with children and adults and in variable environments (inside and outside in all weather conditions). Comfortable working independently, as a member of a team, and leader of a team effort.
Education major and/or previous education or childcare experience preferred. A criminal background check is required to receive this position.
