Under general supervision directs the archeology protection, research, and educational programs for the State Park Service.
  • Plans and supervises archeological projects on state parks, including budgeting, research design, surveying, excavating, analysis of results and writing of reports.
  • Directs the State Park archeological protection program including the recommendation of appropriate policies and procedures, review of construction and development of projects for compliance with internal State and Federal laws, policies, and regulations. Makes recommendations on such projects relevant to archeological resources.
  • Prepares public interpretive and educational material related to State Park archeological sites including program guides, brochures, exhibits, audio visual programs, and technical assistance packages for on-site personnel. 
  • Prepares appropriate areas of individual park resource management plans, including protection, stabilization or restoration of archeological sites. Makes recommendations on system wide archeological protection and planning. 
  • Supervises program of cataloging, analysis, conservation, storage and data base design for archeological artifacts.
  • Complete SMP for selected parks.
  • Practice and promote teamwork within the agency and with external agency stakeholders. Represents office as an active member on agency teams as assigned. Provides articles or stories appropriate for assigned page of the SCPRT websites. Works with functional editor to ensure articles are submitted in a timely manner in accordance with established update schedule.

Minimum and Additional Requirements:A Masters Degree in Anthropology or Archeology and two years of professional experience or a Bachelors Degree and three years of professional experience or any combination of education and experience.

Additional Requirements:
  • The incumbent must have the ability to engage in all aspects of field archeology, including lifting weights of up to 35 pounds. The incumbent is often required to move equipment on foot to remote sites on uneven ground, squatting, digging and excavating.
  • The employee must have good verbal communications skills (oral and written) and must be able to manage multiple projects and duties and work well with both internal and external stakeholders by monitoring and coordinating teams.

Actual Job Location: SCPRT Central Office , Education and Interpretation -Administration.
Full-time, 37.5 hours per week.
