The Parental Education Options Team is responsible for distributing over $340 million in state funds to private schools for the state's Parental School Choice Programs (PSCP). The School Finance Auditor's role is to ensure schools participating in the program are meeting the PSCP's financial and programmatic requirements and ensure the audits and agreed upon procedure reports are in compliance with professional requirements. This work is highly collaborative and solution-oriented. This position includes infrequent travel (1-3 times per year).

Position Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Parental Education Options Team Director, this employee works with a team of 3 other auditors who are responsible for developing, implementing, and determining adherence to accounting, financial reporting and auditing requirements for private schools participating in the Private School Choice Programs (PSCP). The PSCP includes the Milwaukee Parental Choice Program, Racine Parental Choice Program, Wisconsin Parental Choice Program, and the Special Needs Scholarship Program. The PSCP audit team has the primary responsibility for reviewing PSCP budgets to ensure schools are financially viable. Independent certified public accounting firms complete financial audits, fiscal and internal control practices, and membership audits. The PSCP audit team reviews them to ensure the schools are in compliance with programmatic requirements and that the audits and agreed upon procedure reports are in compliance with professional requirements. This individual provides advanced and highly technical consultation and direction to practicing certified public accountants, department staff and private schools by providing written guidance, trainings, and responding to specific questions. Extensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles is necessary.

Applicants must have professional training in accounting and auditing such as that which would be acquired by earning a Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, or other business area from an accredited post-secondary college/university, or commensurate experience and training.
