Continuing Bryn Mawr students are invited to apply for several on-campus summer LITS Digital Technology Internships. These internships provide an opportunity to develop valuable digital competencies while assisting Bryn Mawr faculty and staff in developing and supporting college programs. Interns work directly with LITS staff for faculty and staff “clients” and gain extensive experience with design thinking, project management and assessment, researching and learning new technologies, troubleshooting, and working with clients. Depending on available projects and their own interests, interns may gain experience in areas such as coding or web design, data management and analysis, audiovisual production, digital scholarship, and academic assignment or course development. Past projects that interns have worked on include: developing a language-learning website for an endangered indigenous language, building a database of historical college data, developing a library orientation scavenger hunt app, and creating digital encryption teaching and learning tools.  

LITS digital technology internships are a great opportunity for students considering careers in education, library and information science, or digital technologies. Depending on staffing needs, we may hire interns for related projects during the academic year.

Interns report to Jennifer Spohrer, director of Educational Technology Services (a division of LITS) and are expected to work full-time on Bryn Mawr College campus for 10 weeks (typically June 1 through Aug 7). They are paid biweekly at the college’s standard student rate ($10.20/hour for summer 2020). Interns are responsible for finding and paying for their own housing. The level of prior technical skill and experience needed for these internships varies. Above all, we are looking for individuals who are self-directed, motivated to learn new technologies, and can work effectively with others on a team to complete projects. We expect you to learn technical skills on the job, and we will provide time and resources for you to do this. (Since digital technologies change rapidly, you may find professional staff are learning along with you!)

In your cover letter, please tell us why you are interested in the internship and summarize evidence or give examples of your ability to learn new technologies and work effectively with others. You don’t have to limit yourself to prior work experience – experience gained through coursework, volunteering, or clubs and extracurricular activities is all valid. We’d also love to hear about any experience you have in areas related to teaching, curricular design, coaching or mentoring (e.g., TLI consulting, volunteer teaching); web design or production; graphic design and image editing (e.g., Photoshop, etc.); audiovisual production; podcasting, blogging, or social media marketing; data cleaning, management and analysis; augmented or virtual reality; project management or design thinking.

Requirements:

·        Continuing Bryn Mawr student (i.e., not a graduating senior or transferring out of BMC)

·        Eligibility for on-campus employment
